The following four eminent guest speakers with abundant legal, political, science and business backgrounds will give their presentations followed by a discussion on how their respective fields have been involved in and should be involved in the future in promoting "Innovation."

President Barack Obama nominated John V. Roos as the Ambassador to Japan in June 2009. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn in the following August. Ambassador Roos formerly served as the CEO of the Silicon Valley law firm, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, which he helped build into a pioneer provider of legal services for technology, life sciences and growth companies, such as Apple and Google. As a lawyer, his specialties include corporate finance, corporate law and governance, entrepreneurial services, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital.

A well-known space scientist whose research interests focus on space radio science, space plasma physics and space solar power transmission. After obtaining a Master’s degree and a doctorate in Engineering from Kyoto University in 1967 and 1973, respectively, Dr. Matsumoto held several key teaching and administrative positions at Kyoto University including a visiting professorship from 1991 to 2005 at the Institute for Space and Astronomical Sciences, Institute for Fusion Sciences of Japan & Wuhan University in China.

A brilliant Japanese stem cell researcher well-known for his invention of iPS (Induced Pluripotent Stem) Cells to create various tissue for humans. He is the Director of the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA) at Kyoto University. He was awarded the prestigious 2009 Albert Lasker Award for his work in the field of medicine as well as The Imperial Prize (2010), Japan Academy Prize (2010), the notable Shaw Prize (2008) and the Robert Koch Prize (2008).

A successful businessman and industry leader, he is well-known for his efforts to further globalize Takeda Pharmaceutical’s business activities and his industry leadership roles in Japan.
He holds key positions in governmental agencies and economic organizations, including Chairman of Economic Growth Strategy Board, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; Vice Chairman of Keizai Doyukai (Japan Association of Corporate Executives) and President of the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association. |
